LOFT stands for Local, Organic, and Fair Trade.
Oxfam @ Queen’s focuses upon the promotion of LOFT foods, due to the many benefits it can have for the global and local food system!
1) Local – local foods are beneficial because they cut down on food miles (miles that food travels from growth, processing, and selling), which helps to reduce climate change, provide fresher foods to consumers, thus allowing the reduction of preservatives, and keeps money in local economies.
2) Organic – organic foods are beneficial because they reduce the amount of pesticide use, thus benefitting the environment and our bodies!
